I can’t say that it was unexpected but last night my mother finally gave up and died quietly around 11:40 PM. The last few days have been quite surreal and despite preparations I am quite stunned.
It was almost as if she were waiting for me to come to California and see her. Our last visit she called me by name and that was just a few days ago. My mother was a Sicilian by birth and nature and strangely enough her last lucid statement was “I am staying here!”.
She is survived by her four children, three grand kids and one great grand daughter.

I am so sorry to hear your sad news. I also lost my mother recently. People tell me it gets easier with time, so far each day is a little bit better. I hope you can remember the good times long after the pain of the lost has faded.

I am so sorry to hear about your mother passing, my condolences. My mother passed the same way, I went outside to speak to God and when I went back into the hospital and held her in my arms she passed away, so sad. Take care

Thank you all for your sympathy, it means a lot to me. Despite outward appearance of my hard and crusty shell it seems I am still have a soft and chewy center. I will be back sometime next week.
